The journey of a widowed Southern lady stranded in the Mid-west surviving the perils and pearls of grief, adult children, grandchildren, writing, retirement, and assorted crises.
I'm reading this a few days after you posted it. Hope your test went well. I hate all those financial decisions we have to make as we get older. One of my solutions is to move to a smaller place and rent out this house when the time comes. We've had good luck with a renter in our former home. Pays rent electronically, so he's never late. Takes good care of the place. After mortgage payments, taxes and insurance, we make a few extra thousand dollars a year. So I wouldn't mind doing it again.
